Wonderful Gesture of Fair-Play at the Tug of War final .. World Games (21 juli 2009) KAOHSIUNG. Swiss Tug of War team demonstrated Fairplay at The 8th World Games in Kaohsiung and voluntarily took out one of their puller of the team. During the final pull for Gold a German athlete was injured and therefore had to be taken out of the team. As the German team had already used their right of substitution before, the team of coach Andreas Berl was as a consequence forced to continue the final match one player down. The Swiss team however, filled with self-confidence, decided to take out one of their pullers too, to re-establish formal equality. Despite this decision, the Swiss team demonstrated why they are the world’s best and still won. „This was a wonderful gesture of Fairplay, which makes it much easier to cope with the defeat“, the German coach mentioned and acknowledged.
