Taiwan tug of war team wins 2nd gold medal in world champion (25 februari 2008) Taipei, Feb. 25 (CNA) The Taiwanese women's tug of war team won the title in the senior 480-kg division in the World Indoor Championships 2008 held in Italy Sunday, Chinese Taipei Tug of War Association officials said Monday. The Chinese Taipei team beat semi-finalist Japan in two straight games to win gold in the senior 480 women division in the World Indoor Tug of War Championships 2008 held in Faenza, the officials said. Teams from Scotland and South Africa won third and fourth place in the senior 480 women competitions. Sunday's game was another powerful performance after Chinese Taipei trounced China in two straight games to win gold in the senior 520 women division Saturday. Chinese Taipei won world championships in the senior 520 women competitions held in Ireland in 2006 and Germany in 2005, the officials told the CNA. It was also the first time the Chinese Taipei team -- made up of office workers from the central county of Changhua and athletes from the Taipei Physical Education College in northern Taiwan -- won the championship of the senior 480 women division since the team first participated in the World Indoor Championships six years ago, the officials said. Saturday's win also gave the team a ticket to take part in the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung, the officials added. The top six teams in the senior 520 women category in the World Indoor Championships will be eligible to compete in the 2009 World Games, they noted.
