Ladies on top of the world after bronze medal
(6 maart 2008)

Sheen Ladies with medals.

The World Indoor Tug of War Championships was held in Faenza, Italy – with Sheen Ladies representing England.
The tournament was pulled on a new type of matting, but this did not have a major impact on the final results. Many fancied teams picked-up medals.

Sheen Ladies were in the 520 kilos weight class and the World Open Club Championships at 520 kilos.

In the 520 kilos, Sheen had a shaky start, but gained in confidence and managed to reach the semi finals.

They met Lai Gang ladies from China in the semi final, losing by 2 ends to 0, and went in the bronze medal pull off against TTV De Groene Oase from the Netherlands.

Sheen attacked the Dutch team hard on both ends, and proved to strong for the Dutch girls and secured the bronze with a good 2 ends to 0 win.
Lai Gang won the first ever gold medal for China defeating the Japanese ladies in the final.

Sheen Ladies were representing England at 520 kilos. England started off by defeating the Netherlands, Ukraine, and South Africa. They then lost out to Japan, Chinese Taipei and China, but still looked good to qualify for the semi final.

England's last pull in the group round was against Scotland who were on level points. These two teams were fighting it out for the last place in the semi final and it was England who earned a hard fought 2 ends to 0 win.

This dealt a double blow to the Scotland team as not only did this stop Scotland progressing to the semi-final, it meant that England achieved a higher placing than Scotland at the World championships and means that England will represent Great Britain at the World Games in 2009.
