The Netherlands retained their World Games title in the 680kg team at Duisburg.

The Netherlands retained their World Games title in the 680kg team at Duisburg. As at the 2004 World championships, the World and European champions triumphed over Sweden in the final beating them 3-0. Ireland grabbed the bronze medal.
After defeats in their first two preliminary round matches, the Dutch were facing an early elimination. Howeber, the 2001 World Games champions then achieved three successive victories and finished the preliminaries in second position. “The first match against Switzerland cost us a lot of power“, coach Egbert Jansen explained, „but in the end we had the greater resources.”
Their opponents in the final, Sweden, won all their five preliminary round matches. But after a power-stripping semi-final against Switzerland, the Scandinavians were clearly weaker than the Dutch. Finalgegner Schweden gewann dagegen alle seine fünf Vorrunden-Duelle. Ireland upset Switzerland by 3-0 in the match fort he bronze medal. About 1,500 enthusiastic fans celebrated the teams with „La Ola“ waves.
